In response, the little people fire a volley of arrows into his hand and violently attack his body and face. The emperor of Blefuscu sends back a message refusing. But the remembrance of what I had felt, which probably might not be the worst they could do, and the promise of honour I made them—for so I interpreted my submissive behaviour—soon drove out these imaginations. Gulliver eventually sets sail and is picked up by a merchant ship and returned to his home, where he makes a solid profit showing Lilliputian-sized livestock he has carried home in his pockets. Gulliver is tossed into the water and the ship is wrecked. Yet the Lilliputian state sees these two perspectives as a problem. The heat I had contracted by coming very near the flames, and by labouring to quench them, made the wine begin to operate by urine; which I voided in such a quantity, and applied so well to the proper places, that in three minutes the fire was wholly extinguished, and the rest of that noble pile, which had cost so many ages in erecting, preserved from destruction. His rage might have given him the strength to break the ropes they used to tie him. The Lilliputians decide to kill him in several different ways but the Emperor asks Redresal his advisor what to do, so he says instead of killing him they should just put out his eyes so he can still be of use. By setting up the narrator as a normal person in the beginning of the book, Swift helps readers to sense that Gulliver is trustworthy and a regular guy whom they can relate to. I might easily have stifled it with my coat, which I unfortunately left behind me for haste, and came away only in my leathern jerkin. This may also be a commentary on the seeming ability of those in positions of power to get away with breaking the law. I often let my legs drop, and could feel no bottom; but when I was almost gone, and able to struggle no longer, I found myself within my depth; and by this time the storm was much abated. Gulliver, having no instrument to put out the fire, extinguishes it by urinating on it. The Author's way of living in that Country.
