The Romance of a Busy Broker 1,380 words Amid the rush of a workday, Harvey Maxwell, a broker, is overcome with feeling for a stenographer, Miss Leslie. The next day the boy goes to look at the announcement that the priest has died, and then wanders about, further puzzling about his dream and about his relationship with the priest. The book then takes apart these stories to exemplify different terms and methods. When the boy reaches the object of his quest, however, Araby the church is empty — except for a woman and two men who speak with English accents. Over the course of the story, the boy overcomes many of the obstacles in his life with the help of his older brother. He has another affair with Dolly, a flapper, and loses her as well. It could be interpreted, however, that he was unable to cope with the mundane daily routine of being a parish priest - which finally led to his collapse.
